These pages are dedicated to the memory of two of the most famous breweries in the county of Hampshire.

Strong's of Romsey - In the heart of the agricultural belt of Hampshire. It's influence spread from Poole in Dorset to Marlow in Buckinghamshire. A giant of the industry that finally lost it's independence in 1969.

Brickwood's of Portsmouth - Adjacent to the huge naval dockyard in Portsmouth. Brickwoods had a ready made customer base. In Pompey every street had a 'Rising Sun' pub ! As with Strong's, the influence spread far a field reaching past Brighton in Sussex and back to the New Forest. Another giant of the industry it's days of independence ended in 1973.

In the early 80's I was working as a laboratory technician with Messrs Whitbreads based at the Portsmouth brewery. I was often seconded to the Romsey brewery and was present at the demise of brewing on both of these sites.

I hope you find the history, stories and pictures interesting.
